"I Really Like What They Are Doing."
- Kirk Hammett, Metallica

As pioneers of the Oriental metal genre for the best part of nearly two decades, Orphaned Land has become renowned internationally for fusing elements of traditional Middle Eastern music with the fundamentals of progressive heavy metal.

Remarkably, Orphaned Land are quite possibly the most popular Israelis in the Middle East, with their music attracting a huge Arab following. Orphaned Land reaches out to their Muslim fans and uses heavy metal, of all things, as a vehicle to unite enemies. Their fans don’t forget the band’s message, as evidenced by the fans’ starting an online petition in 2012 to nominate Orphaned Land for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Orphaned Land regularly plays huge shows in outdoor arenas in Turkey, where metalheads (albeit with band tattoos) travel far distances and face danger in their home countries (such as Syria and Egypt) to see their heroes perform, it’s a story that every metalhead can be proud of. This led Orphaned Land to receive "The Peace & Friendship Award" from the Turkish government.

Orphaned Land’s career contains many highlights. These include supporting Metallica, Dio and Blind Guardian, collaborating with Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree, Opeth) and playing major festivals such as Sonisphere, Hellfest and Wacken Open Air. In 2014, they did a mammoth 50-show headlining run through Europe, where they toured together with Palestinian metal band Khalas, in a heartwarming display of co-exsistance, brotherhood, tolerance and understanding.

In that same year, they won the 'Global Metal Band Of The Year' award at The 2014 Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards.
